2002 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2002 Toyota Tundra?
A: A technician must remove the master cylinder before disconnecting the vacuum hose from the brake booster and taking off the scuff plate LH together with cowl side trim LH and lower finish panel and No. 2 heater to register duct. Start by dismissing the pedal return spring and clip and clevis pin then proceed to the brake booster removal by detaching 4 nuts and clevis before pulling out the brake booster and gasket and removing the two stopper rings and brake booster bracket and gasket from the brake booster. Start installation by applying a new gasket to the brake booster followed by brake booster bracket and two stopper rings installation before placing both booster and another new gasket onto position. installation requires attachment of the clevis to operating rod while torquing booster installation nuts until they reach 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Place the clevis pin into the brake pedal and clevis alignment and fasten its position with the clip while reattaching the vacuum hose at the brake booster. Reinstall the No. 2 heater followed by register duct then lower finish panel and both cowl side trim pieces as well as the scuff plate. Set Special Service Tool: 09737-00011 on the master cylinder to lower the pin toward the piston until it barely touches. Then flip the tool and measure the booster push rod pinhead clearance against it to guarantee a reading of 0 mm (0 inch). Set the Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 to modify the booster push rod length until it lightly contacts the pinhead. The master cylinder installation completes the process by following fluid filling and brake system bleeding procedures with fluid leakage inspections then brake pedal checks and operational testing.
