2003 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2003 Toyota Tundra?
A: Starting the vacuum brake booster service creates a sequence which includes removal of the master cylinder at first then disconnecting the vacuum hose from the brake booster followed by elimination of the scuff plate LH, cowl side trim LH, lower finish panel, and No. 2 heater to register duct. The service process begins by removing the pedal return spring with its clip and clevis pin. Then detach the brake booster through the procedure of unscrewing 4 nuts and clevis before pulling out the brake booster and gasket together with removing its 2 stopper rings and brake booster bracket and gasket. To install begin with a new gasket on the brake booster followed by brake booster bracket along with 2 stopper rings then put on the booster and lastly apply one more new gasket. The installation process requires connecting the clevis to the operating rod while applying torque to the booster installation nuts to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). The clevis pin should pass through the clevis before locking it with the clip while the vacuum hose should attach to the brake booster. Install the No. 2 heater after which you can put back the register duct and lower finish panel and cowl side trim LH and scuff plate. Set Special Service Tool: 09737-00011 on the master cylinder piston while suspending it with the pin until it just makes light contact before flipping the tool and using it to check the push rod and pin head clearance which should be 0 mm (0 inch). The booster push rod length needs adjustment with Special Service Tool: 09737-00020 until the rod just touches the pin head. After reinstalling the master cylinder the operation continues with brake fluid in the reservoir followed by brake system bleeding until fluid leakage checks are done and brake pedal adjustment completes the procedure.
