- Q: How to service and repair the evaporator core on 2002 Toyota Sequoia?A: The evaporator core service and repair task begins with refrigerant discharge from the system then evacuating air before adding 1050 plus or minus 50 g (37.03 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) of refrigerant while checking for any leaks. Remove the engine coolant from the radiator with care to maintain a small amount of coolant inside. After removing all mentioned components, including rear seat outer belt floor anchors, backdoor scuff plate and rear door scuff plate RH, upper back door garnish and rear window side garnish RH, rear quarter trim panel RH and quarter pillar garnish RH. Remove the 2 bolts connecting the suction tubes and liquid tubes while torquing them to 5.4 Nm then immediately secure the open fittings to protect the system against moisture or dirt entry. Install two new O-rings that are prepared with compressor oil onto the tubing. The air duct removal process starts with unclipping the 3 clips along with cover and proceeding to disconnect the 2 air ducts and wire harness clamps. Unscrew the expansion valve by removing its 4 screws and 2 brackets followed by packing removal while avoiding damage then use a 5.0 mm (0.20 in.) hexagon wrench to remove the 2 bolts (torque to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in.-lbf)) before separating the 3 bolts to lift the A/C unit until it frees the tube and accessory. To finish the process of removal you need to disconnect the evaporator by unfastening the 8 screws and cover before drawing out the evaporator. The installation steps require the opposite order of removal steps.
