- Q: How to service and repair the A/C Clutch on 2002 Toyota Sequoia?A: Service and repair of the compressor clutch starts with first allowing the engine to idle with A/C turned on for 10 minutes while disconnecting the negative battery cable next. The service technician must remove the system refrigerant and detach both discharge and suction hoses using their 2 nuts while applying immediate end caps to the open fittings to stop moisture and dirt entry. Proceed into the next stage by disconnecting the connector before removing the 3 bolts and nut and then taking off the cooler bracket and finally extracting the compressor. To install the compressor combine it with its cooler bracket through the 3 bolts and nut before tightening bolts to 47 N.m (480 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) and nut to 25 N.m (255 kgf.cm, 18 in.lbf) then attach the connector. The installation requires connection of discharge and suction hoses with 2 nuts that need tightening to 10 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 in.lbf) while preserving the new O-rings with compressor oil before installation. Reinstall the drive belt before reconnecting the negative (-) terminal battery cable and complete the process by evacuating air from the refrigeration system and adding 750 plus or minus 50g (26.45 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) for single A/C or 1050 plus or minus 50g (37.03 plus or minus 1.76 oz.) for dual A/C. To detect refrigerant leakage a gas leak detector should be used followed by a joint torque check if leakage occurs.
