2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the throttle body for a manual transmission on 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: You should start the manual transmission throttle body service and repair process by draining the engine coolant. Proceed with service and repair of the manual transmission throttle body by first removing the suspension upper brace followed by disconnecting the VSV for EVAP from the air cleaner hose and finally removing the air cleaner hose. The removal process starts with accelerator cable deinstallation after which you should disconnect the throttle position sensor connector alongside tightening the IAC valve connector and PCV hose and both water bypass hoses. The intake manifold requires removal of its two bolts along with two nuts, throttle body and two gaskets after which comes removal of two bolts along with accelerator cable bracket from the throttle body unit. Place two new gaskets on the intake manifold before attaching the accelerator cable bracket to the throttle body through two bolts and securing the throttle body by tightening the two bolts and two nuts to 30 N.m (305 kgf.cm, 22 ft.lbf). Base installation of the throttle body by attaching the PCV hose to the throttle body at the same time as the two water bypass hoses along with the IAC valve connector and throttle position sensor connector. You should reassemble the accelerator cable followed by installation of the air cleaner hose then reinsert the VSV for EVAP and finally secure the suspension upper brace. The completion of the radiator requires a filling with engine coolant.
