2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: Service and repair of the Brake Master Cylinder starts by disassembling its components. Remove the reservoir by tapping a pin punch and hammer into the slotted spring pin. After removing the spring pin, proceed to remove the reservoir and 2 grommets followed by the cap and strainer. Remove the 2 pistons and springs first through the process of inserting snap ring pliers to extract the snap ring followed by using a screwdriver to push in the piston while taped at the tip then drawing out both pistons and springs directly. The technician applies lithium soap base glycol grease to all parts before inserting the No. 2 piston and spring and using a screwdriver to secure the straight pin. First install the No. 1 piston alongside its spring and after that apply the snap ring with snap ring pliers. As a final step the reservoir receives its installation components starting with the strainer cap placement then insertion of the two grommets before fastening the reservoir to the cylinder body by tapping in the slotted spring pin.
