2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder Brake Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: You can start Brake Master Cylinder repairs by detaching all its parts: first extract the reservoir with a hammer and pin punch on the slotted spring pin then separate the reservoir followed by both grommets then remove the cap and strainer. You should eliminate the 2 pistons and springs using snap ring pliers to extract the snap ring while gently pushing the piston with a screwdriver that has a taped tip for improved safety. You should apply lithium soap base glycol grease to all parts before installing the No. 2 piston and spring and securing them with a straight pin while you push the piston into place with a screwdriver. The snap ring installation requires snap ring pliers after placing the No. 1 piston and spring. The last step to assemble the reservoir requires installing the strainer and cap then adding the 2 grommets and finally securing the reservoir to the cylinder body while tapping in the slotted spring pin.
