2002 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front wheel speed sensor on 2002 Toyota Highlander?
A: Start the replacement of front wheel speed sensor by removing the front wheel combined with the left-hand side front fender liner. The first step is to disconnect the speed sensor connector after which remove the two clamp bolts that hold the sensor harness and clamp in place on the body and shock absorber. The front left side speed sensor bolt and speed sensor must be removed so foreign matter can be prevented from sticking to the sensor tip. The new speed sensor must attach with the bolt but ensure it meets a torque specification of 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). After that, install bolts "A" and "B" to the body and shock absorber where torque must align with Bolt A at 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.) and Bolt B at 29 Nm (296 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.). Use a clamp to connect the knuckle with the speed sensor connector. After reattaching the front fender liner you must install the front wheel while tightening it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) before verifying the ABS speed sensor signal.
