2002 Toyota Echo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2002 Toyota Echo?
A: A successful power steering pump servicing operation begins with removing the RH engine under cover together with the oil reservoir tank cover. Disconnect the return hose through clip removal and maintain the drive belt from fluid leakage. Special Service Tool: 09023-12700 will assist in disconnection of the pressure feed tube followed by oil pressure sensor connector removal. First remove the drive belt by loosening bolts A and B before proceeding to uninstall the PS vane pump assembly through bolts B, C, and the adjusting strut while not thoroughly removing bolt A (it is not possible to completely remove this component). Begin the installation procedure with bolt A on the PS vane pump assembly before adding the adjusting strut with bolt C seated at 44 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.) tension before completing the process with temporarily installed bolt B. Afterward install the drive belt followed by tension adjustment and torquing bolts A and B to 44 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). Connect the oil pressure sensor connector after ensuring there is no oil present on it and then reconnect the pressure feed tube with Special Service Tool: 09023-12700, torquing it to 41 Nm (420 kgf-cm, 30 ft. lbs.) before properly reinstalling it to the rear stay. Reinstall the RH engine under cover after connecting the return hose with its clip and performing power steering system bleeding and installing the oil reservoir tank cover by pushing it down entirely.
