2001 Toyota Echo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2001 Toyota Echo?
A: Start the power steering pump servicing and repair process by taking off both the RH engine under cover and the oil reservoir tank cover. Disconnect the return hose by pulling off the clip above the hose while watching for any fluid leakage towards the drive belt. First disconnect the pressure feed tube using Special Service Tool: 09023-12700 before removing the oil pressure sensor connector. First remove the drive belt by loosening bolts A and B and then proceed to take out the PS vane pump assembly through bolts B, C, and the adjusting strut, while bolt A requires sufficient loosening for removal since it cannot be removed alone. First, install bolt A onto the PS vane pump assembly before adding the adjusting strut with bolt C and torquing it to 44 Nm (440 kgf-cm and 32 ft. lbs.). Next, install bolt B temporarily before installing the drive belt and correctly tensioning it. Finish by tightening bolts A and B to 44 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). Safely attach the oil pressure sensor connector before connecting the pressure feed tube through the use of Special Service Tool: 09023-12700 until torque reaches 41 Am (420 kgf-cm, 30 ft. lbs.) to achieve correct installation on the rear stay. The procedure requires connecting the return hose to its clip followed by reinstalling the RH engine under cover and conducting power steering system bleeding before placing the oil reservoir tank cover which needs a complete push-down operation.
