2002 Toyota Celica Clutch Slave Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Slave Cylinder on 2002 Toyota Celica?
A: The work procedure for Clutch Slave Cylinder repair starts with disconnecting the clutch line after lifting the vehicle to a secure position. The Service Tech 09023-00100 should be used to disconnect the clutch line while catching fluid in a container before lowering the vehicle. Start by detaching the air cleaner case assembly with the air hose and proceed to the clutch line clamp set bolt before removing the 2 bolts which anchor the clutch line bracket and release cylinder. The boot removal starts with push rod boot extraction followed by removing the boot from the push rod. The piston with spring should be removed from the cylinder by using compressed air while holding the piston with waste cloth but taking care not to let it jump out to prevent brake fluid splashes. The bleeder plug should be removed during assembly before inserting it with 8.4 Nm torque (85 kgf-cm, 74 inch lbs.) while applying lithium soap base glycol grease to the piston followed by pistons and springs into the cylinder. The installation requires fitting the boot with push rod onto the cylinder. Installation requires bolt tightening to 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) on the release cylinder and clutch line bracket followed by attaching the clutch line clamp to the clutch line bracket using the bolt at 4.9 Nm (50 kgf-cm, 43 inch lbs.), while air cleaner case assembly reinstallation includes air hose placement. Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 should be used to connect the clutch line while the vehicle is raised at 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) torque. Add brake fluid to the reservoir tank before performing a clutch system bleed while looking for any signs of leakage. The procedure ends with the reinstallation of the LH and RH engine under covers followed by lowering the vehicle.
