2001 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Slave Cylinder on 2001 Toyota Celica?
A: The Clutch Slave Cylinder repair process requires disconnecting the clutch line after vehicle elevating and securing its position. Start by unscrewing the LH and RH engine under covers before using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to disconnect the clutch line while containing any fluid in a container. Then lower the vehicle. The service order requires removal of the air cleaner case assembly with attached air hose before unfastening the clutch line clamp set bolt and 2 bolts holding the clutch line bracket to release cylinder. To disassemble the unit simply pull out the boot combined with the push rod followed by boot removal from the push rod. Use compressed air to remove the piston with spring from the cylinder while holding it with a waste cloth to stop it from releasing and prevent brake fluid from sprinkling. You must install the bleeder plug at 8.4 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 74 inch lbs.) torque before you apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the piston and place it together with the spring inside the cylinder. Begin by attaching the push rod to the boot then install the boot-and-push rod as a unit to the cylinder. Installation requires securement of the release cylinder to clutch line bracket with two 12Nm (120kgf-cm, 9ft.lbs.) torqued bolts as well as attachment of clutch line clamp to clutch line bracket using a 4.9 Nm (50 kgf-cm, 43 inch.lbs.) torqued bolt before reinstalling the air cleaner case assembly with the attached air hose. The final step involves using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to join the clutch line then torquing it to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). After filling the brake reservoir tank with brake fluid, complete a clutch system bleed followed by leak checks before reinstalling LH and RH engine under covers and lowering the vehicle.
