2002 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear Sway Bar Kit on 2002 Toyota Camry?
A: The replacement process for the rear sway bar kit starts with taking off the rear wheel. The removal process starts with moving the rear sway bar link assembly left-hand side by unfastening its 2 nuts and sway bar link while using a hexagon wrench (5 mm) to hold steady the stud when the ball joint rotates. The same process needs to be done for the right-hand side sway bar link assembly. The left-hand side sway bar link assembly ball joint requires testing by rotating the stud 5 times before adding the nut. Afterward, use a torque wrench to repeatedly tighten the nut at a speed of 2-4 seconds per turn and measure torque on the 5th turn aiming for 0.05 - 1.0 Nm (0.5 - 10 kgf-cm, 0.4 - 8.7 inch lbs.). Start sway bar removal by unfastening the 8 bolts and both No. 1 brackets and two bushings. Install the bushing and bracket on the left-hand side using four bolts while tightening to 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) and check the use of appropriate bolts A and B before placing the bushing against the inner side of the bushing stopper on the sway bar. Put the left-hand side rear sway bar link assembly into place by detaching its 2 nuts and sway bar link at 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.); alternately use a 5 mm hexagon wrench to lock the stud if it rotates with the nut. The assembly process for the right-hand side rear sway bar link should proceed according to the left-hand side instructions. Reinstall the rear wheel with a proper torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.).
