2002 Toyota Avalon Air Bag Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove and install the front Air Bag sensor on 2002 Toyota Avalon?
A: The first step to removing the front Air Bag sensor includes two bolt and screw removal of the LH side headlight followed by connector disconnection keeping the sensor assembly in place. The front Air Bag sensor on the LH side requires removal of its two securing bolts. The same procedure applies to the RH side which starts with removing the headlight through its 2 bolts and screw before disconnecting the connector and removing the 2 bolts from the front Air Bag sensor. The installation requires you to fasten the front Air Bag sensors on both sides using 4 bolts while tightening them to 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf). After sensor installation connect the connector while verifying that the sensor shows no damage through cracks or dents; make a new sensor purchase when defect criteria exist. The electrical connection check mechanism needs to be safely locked in position while connecting the connector to stop malfunction codes from occurring. The front Air Bag sensor needs installation with the arrow pointing toward the vehicle front. Complete the headlight installation process by replacing it using four bolts together with two screws.
