2001 Toyota Avalon Air Bag Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the Air Bag Sensor Assembly for the floor shift on 2001 Toyota Avalon?
A: The first step in repairing the floor shift Air Bag sensor assembly requires removal of the Front Door Scuff Plate LH, Cowl Side Trim LH, No.1 Lower Panel, No.2 Under Cover, Lower Panel, Upper Console Panel, Rear Console Box and Front Console Box. The Air Bag sensor connectors must be disconnected from the installed position before removing the four screws that attach it using a Torx wrench (T40, Part No.09042-00020 or locally manufactured tool). Install the new Air Bag sensor assembly with the same wind-up wrench that should be used to apply 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) torque to the four screws. Connect the Air Bag sensor connectors only after the assembly installation ends. The sensor assembly must be inspected for any defects that include broken segments or indentations while also maintaining sufficient space between the SRS wiring and other car parts. It is necessary to check sensor assembly stability by performing a light shake test following the installation step. The final step requires installation of the Front Console followed by Rear Console Box then Upper Console Panel and Lower Panel with additional installation of No.2 Under Cover and No.1 Lower Panel and Cowl Side Trim LH and Front Door Scuff Plate LH.
