2000 Toyota Avalon Air Bag Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the Air Bag sensor assembly for the floor shift on 2000 Toyota Avalon?
A: The floor shift air bag sensor assembly needs repair work that begins with front door scuff plate LH removal followed by cowl side trim LH removal then no.1 lower panel, no.2 under cover removal followed by lower panel, upper console panel and rear console box and front console box elimination. Separate the air bag sensor connectors while keeping the sensor assembly installed before disconnecting them. A either T40 torx wrench part no.09042-00020 or its locally produced counterpart must be used to remove the four screws that keep the air bag sensor assembly in place. The T40 torx wrench serves to both install the four screws into the air bag sensor assembly at 20 Nm (200 kg.cm, 15 ft.lb) and then attach the connectors after the assembly placement. The air bag sensor assembly requires proper torquing but the repair technician must replace it with a new one if the assembly shows damage or if it was dropped. SRS wiring must be carefully treated during installation to prevent damage and sensor assembly stability can be checked through light movement. The last procedure requires reinstalling front console, rear console box, upper console panel, lower panel and no.2 under cover, no.1 lower panel, cowl side trim LH and front door scuff plate LH.
