2000 Toyota Avalon Air Bag Parts Q&A
Q: What precautions should be taken when deploying an Air Bag while scrapping a vehicle equipped with an SRS on 2000 Toyota Avalon?
A: Use the Special Service Tool 09082-00700 (SRS Air Bag Deployment Tool) to deploy Air Bags before vehicle scrapping or side Air Bag assembly disposal by performing the operation outdoors not close to residents for disturbance. The deployment area needs to be positioned 10 m (33 ft) or more from the side Air Bag assembly and all electrical noise should be eliminated from the zone. Test the operational readiness of Special Service Tool: 09082-00700 by disconnecting the side Air Bag connector and performing the installation process with Special Service Tool: 09082-00700 and 09082-00750 by connecting their connectors to the Air Bag connector but avoid locking the secondary lock of the twin lock. Ensure the Special Service Tool sits 10 m (33 ft) behind the vehicle front and close all doors and windows while connecting the battery-based terminals between the red and black clips. The Air Bag deployment process starts only after confirming that the vehicle interior remains empty and an area of 10 m (33 ft) around it is clear then hitting the activation button. Following Air Bag deployment you must stay at least 30 minutes before handling the assembly and use protective gloves and glasses together with washing your hands in water after finishing the work. Before vehicle scrapping operate the Air Bag then proceed to fragment the vehicle with its side Air Bag assembly in place. When the Air Bag activates it occurs in parallel with the illumination of the Special Service Tool activation switch LED.
