2002 Toyota 4Runner Fuel Pressure Regulator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the fuel pressure regulator on 2002 Toyota 4Runner?
A: Service and repair of the fuel pressure regulator begins by taking out the air cleaner hose and the intake air connector assembly. Before disconnecting the fuel return hose from the fuel pressure regulator place a shop rag under the device to catch potential fuel leakage. First cut the fuel pressure regulator loose by removing the engine wire holding bolt on the LH cylinder head cover then unplug the protective bracket from the RH cylinder head cover and raise the engine wire. First detach the two holding bolts and smoothly extract the pressure regulator before taking off its O-ring. When installing a new O-ring on the pressure regulator always use gasoline first and put the O-ring onto the regulator before securing it to the LH delivery pipe while making sure it rotates without resistance; if your O-ring causes installation issues you must remove it for repetition of previous steps. Reinstall the engine wire with the bolt after tightening the two pressure regulator bolts to 8 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf). Secure the fuel return hose to the fuel pressure regulator with proper insertion of the hose till the stopper and use a clip to prevent movement. Last step includes attaching the intake air connector assembly together with the air cleaner hose and conducting a fuel leak inspection.
