2002 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair fuel injectors on 2002 Toyota 4Runner?
A: Commence fuel injector repair by taking off the air cleaner hose followed by intake air connector assembly with fuel pressure regulator then use a container to catch leaked fuel while disconnecting the fuel inlet pipe. Start by disconnecting the fuel pipe while removing the injector connectors and after that proceed to take off the delivery pipes and injectors while maintaining control to prevent injector drops and avoiding any force on the injectors while doing so. Start by removing 4 bolts and delivery pipes alongside 6 injectors and after that separate the 4 spacers on the intake manifold followed by pulling out the 6 injectors from the delivery pipes then extracting the 2 O-rings and insulator from each of the injectors. The first step of installation requires fastening temporary delivery pipes with injectors to each component by placing new insulators on each injector and applying a light layer of spindle oil or gasoline to fresh O-rings before mounting them onto the injector while rotating it to reach the delivery pipes for proper positioning. Install the threaded spacers onto the intake manifold after attaching delivery pipes which include their 6 injectors on the intake manifold with temporary bolt installation. The O-rings should be replaced when injector rotation is disrupted during inspection. At first install the fuel pipe with new gaskets fitted on both ends. Tighten then the union bolts to a torque of 34.3 N.m (350 kgf.cm, 25 ft.lbf). After installing the delivery pipes on the intake manifold use the 4 bolts with a tightening torque of 13 N.m (130 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf). Attach the fuel inlet pipe through a temporary installation process using 2 new gaskets and a union bolt and a bolt before tightening both parts to specific torques where the clamp bolt reaches 8 N.m and the union bolt gets 34.3 N.m. Reinstall the fuel pressure regulator before inspecting the air assist lines and connections for damage or harm and loose connections and installing the intake air connector assembly with the air cleaner hose in place. Finish by testing for fuel leaks.
