2003 Toyota 4Runner Fuel Injector Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel injector assembly on 2003 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The first step for fuel injector assembly replacement involves stopping gasoline leakage while draining engine coolant from the system. The first step involves removing the V-bank cover followed by hose detachment from ventilation no.0.2 while the air cleaner assembly also needs removal. Unplug hoses N0.4 and N0.5 for water bypass and remove both the fuel vapor feed hose assembly together with the ventilation hose from the system. Disassembly starts with removing the intake air surge tank by disconnecting its 2 VSV connectors and its throttle motor connector and by eliminating the 3 wire harness clamps and hose clamp followed by taking off the 3 upper bolts securing the surge tank stays and throttle body bracket. A socket hexagon wrench 8 along with a 4-bolt removal will let you take off the 2 nuts that secure both the intake air surge tank along with its gasket. The fuel pipe sub-assembly N0.1 should be detached by removing its clamp and pinching its tube connector to withdraw the pipe after verifying no dirt accumulates near the connector. The same procedure applies to fuel pipe sub-assembly N0.2. The procedure to replace the fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly begins with disconnecting the 6 fuel injector connectors then removing 6 bolts accompanying the fuel delivery pipe and injectors as you prevent the parts from falling. To install the new fuel injector assembly begin by placing new insulators followed by applying spindle oil or gasoline on new O-rings before installing them while rotating the injectors. Place fuel injector connectors toward the outside and fasten the fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly to the intake manifold through 6 bolts while inspecting injector movement. The 6 fuel injector connectors should be attached after tightening all suspect bolts to 15 N.m (153 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lbf). The technicians will connect fuel pipe components N0.2 and N0.1 by tube insertion until a "click" is detected while inspecting for damage and foreign objects before securing the clamps. Connect the intake air surge tank with a new gasket along with 2 nuts which should be tightened to 28 N.m (286 kgf.cm, 21 ft.lbf). Continue by fully tightening the 4 bolts on the same torque followed by the 3 upper bolts at 21 N.m (214 kgf.cm, 16 ft.lbf). The installation process includes reattaching wire harness clamps, hose clamp and connecting throttle motor and 2 VSV connectors before reconnecting the ventilation hose and fuel vapor feed hose assembly together with water by-pass hoses N0.4 and N0.5. Conclude the repair by placing the air cleaner assembly then hook up ventilation hose N0.2 before rehanging the V-bank cover while adding engine coolant before examining for fluid leaks across engine coolant and fuel systems.
