2001 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2001 Toyota Tundra?
A: The power steering pump repair starts with air cleaner assembly displacement and air cleaner hose separation through MAF meter connector deconnection and duct hose unclamping followed by three bolt removal. The drive belt tensioner needs a clockwise twist to create loose belt action before drive belt extraction. The power steering pump service begins by undoing the vacuum hoses then the return hose. Separate the pressure feed tube through a union bolt operation and a gasket removal. Remove the PS vane pump assembly after disconnecting its 2 bolts and nut and stud bolt. Begin PS vane pump assembly installation using the stud bolt which requires a torque of 22 Nm (220 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.), then install the 2 bolts and nut and torque to 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 33 ft. lbs.). Attach the pressure feed tube while confirming the new gasket position while the stopper lies against the PS vane pump body before securing the union bolt at 46.5 Nm (475 kgf-cm, 34 ft. lbs.). Connect the return hose with its clip while combining both vacuum hoses before installing their appropriate clips. To install the drive belt maintain loose tension before putting back the air cleaner assembly and its components including air cleaner hose and 3 bolts while attaching the clamp and reconnecting all hoses and MAF meter connector. Power steering bleeding must be performed as the last step.
