2001 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the rear speed sensor on 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
A: To replace the rear speed sensor for RZN191L-TRPDKAB and RZN196L-CRPDKAB as well as RZN196L-PRPDKAB and VZN195L-CRPDKAB and VZN195L-PRPDKAB, disconnect the speed sensor connector before pulling out the sensor wire harness with grommet. The sensor wire harness needs to be unwired starting with the removal of five resin clips and followed by two clamp set bolts along with two nuts which secure the harness to the side rail, fuel tank, and axle housing with a torque of 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Remove the speed sensor by taking out its 2 mounting bolts then follow with a tightening torque of 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). Make sure to install the sensor on an object-free location of the axle end and ensure the sensor lies flat against the end before tightening the bolt while also installing new resin clips. The speed sensor signal checking takes place after installation completes in the reverse sequence of removal steps.
