2000 Toyota Tacoma Speed Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to service the rear speed sensor on 2000 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The first step to service the rear speed sensor includes disconnecting its connector then removing the grommetted sensor wire harness. Proceed by disconnecting the speed sensor connector before extracting the sensor wire harness with grommet then remove 5 resin clips and 2 clamp set bolts and 2 nuts which connect the harness to the side rail, fuel tank and axle housing applying a torque of 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Remove the speed sensor along with its 2 mounting bolts while tightening them to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). Check that no items exist on the sensor nor the axle end where the sensor will be installed, also confirm the sensor stays flat against the axle end before tightening the bolt. New resin clips should be used during the installation process. Speed sensor signal testing should be conducted as the final stage of installation.
