2001 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Service and repair of the Brake Master Cylinder starts with disconnecting both the level warning switch connector and wire harness from their mounting bracket. A syringe will remove the fluid from the system but be cautious to keep the liquid out of contact with paint surfaces because such exposure warrants immediate cleaning. To detach the 3 brake lines from the master cylinder and 3-way Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 enables the procedure. During the process apply a torque force of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). The master cylinder must be removed while you remove the 2 nuts alongside the wire harness bracket, 3-way, check valve bracket, and master cylinder using 13 Nm torque (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Follow the removal procedure in reverse order when reinstalling the brake booster push rod followed by an adjustment of its length before final installation. Subsequent to mounting you must add brake fluid to the reservoir then perform brake system bleeding followed by leak inspection and eventual brake pedal adjustment.
