- Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2001 Toyota Tacoma?A: The power steering pump repair starts with drive belt removal after unscrewing both the power steering idle pulley set bolt and belt adjusting bolt. Apply a spanner (24 mm) onto the pressure port union to disconnect the pressure feed tube by removing the union bolt and two required gaskets. Wipe off all fluid from the drive belt before disconnecting the return hose. Secondly remove the PS vane pump assembly through bolt removal of its two assembly set bolts. Begin with PS vane pump assembly installation through two bolts using a torque value of 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.). Begin by attaching the return hose and then connect the pressure feed tube while installing new gaskets on both tube sides along with installing the union bolt. Perform torque adjustments to 47 Nm (475 kgf-cm, 34 ft. lbs.) after verifying that the tube stopper touches the PS pump body. Finish the installation with drive belt tightening using the belt adjusting bolt first before torquing the power steering idle pulley set nut to 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.) while performing power steering system bleeding.
