- Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2002 Toyota Tacoma?A: First step for power steering pump service and repair includes releasing the drive belt through loosening of the power steering idle pulley set bolt followed by adjusting the belt adjusting bolt. The pressure feed tube requires spanner (24 mm) use on the pressure port union to hold position while removing both union bolt and two gaskets. Use caution when disconnecting the return hose while maintaining the drive belt area free from fluid leakage. Beginning the PS vane pump assembly service requires the removal of 2 pump assembly set bolts. The PS vane pump assembly requires installation by bolting it with two bolts which should be torqued to 39 Nm (398 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.). The pressure feed tube installation requires new gaskets placed on both side of the tube before torquing the union bolt to 47 Nm (479 kgf-cm, 35 ft. lbs.) yet the stopper must remain in contact with the PS pump body before final torque application. Install the drive belt system through belt adjusting bolt tensioning followed by torqueing the power steering idle pulley set nut to 39 Nm (398 kgf-cm, 29 ft. lbs.). The power steering system requires bleeding as the final step of the procedure.
