The first step for repairing the rear wheel bearing starts with wheel removal following application of 104 Nm torque (1,050 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs.). After removing the brake drum proceed to check both bearing backlash and the deviation of the axle hub. The maximum allowable backlash measurement during hub bearing shaft inspections should be 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch). Any exceeding value indicates need to replace the bearing. A dial indicator should be used to measure the distance of deviation at the hub bolt area of the axle hub where the maximum limit stands at 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch). If the limit is exceeded the axle hub needs replacement with a new bearing. The ABS speed sensor connector needs removal first before undoing the 4 nuts securing the rear axle hub while applying torque at 80 Nm (820 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.). After installation perform a signal check of the ABS speed sensor and execute the inverted removal procedure for installation.
