2001 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Toyota Sienna?
A: The procedure to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder starts with both air cleaner assembly removal and level warning switch connector disconnection. Deplete brake fluid with a syringe and immediately wash down all painted areas that fluid touches because brake fluid requires immediate removal from painted surfaces. The next step involves removing the reservoir with bracket using 2 bolts that require torquing to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). Proceed with the master cylinder brake line removal by utilizing Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to disconnect both lines at their 10 mm nut setting to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) and at their 12 mm nut setting to 19.6 Nm (200 kgf-cm, 14.5 ft. lbs.). The two mounting nuts securing the master cylinder must be removed while keeping the torque at 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) but only if the vehicle does not have VSC. When installing the master cylinder with VSC VSC, begin by discharging the brake line from the clamp and unfastening the bolt and clamp before removing the 2 mounting nuts and bracket while tightening the mounting nuts to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) and clamping bolt to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.). After removing the master cylinder with its attached gasket the mechanic will need to separate the gasket from the master cylinder itself. The brake booster push rod's length needs adjustment prior to installation during the reverse order of removal steps. Installation should be followed by a brake fluid fill in the reservoir then bleeding the system followed by leak inspection and brake pedal height adjustment.
