2002 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2002 Toyota Sienna?
A: The service process for Brake Master Cylinder repairing starts with unscrewing the reservoir bracket with minimal torque force of 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 49 inch lbs.) followed by hose removal from the reservoir. Begin by taking out both the cap and the strainer. Disconnect the two reservoir hoses from the master cylinder before removing its inlet union through a torque of 1.8 Nm (18 kgf-cm, 16 inch lbs.). The technician should place the master cylinder inside a vise and push the pistons in using a screwdriver. Then they can remove the piston stopper bolt and gasket with 10 Nm torque (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.) while tape-covering the screwdriver tip. To remove a piston without VSC push in the piston then remove the snap ring with snap ring pliers but using VSC requires pushing in the piston to remove the two straight pins by turning over the cylinder body after taping the screwdriver tip. To prevent damaging the cylinder bore during No. 1 piston removal withdraw the piston linearly. Use a cloth along with two wooden blocks to strike the cylinder flange against block edges while ensuring the cloth remains at least 100 mm (3.94 inch) from block top surfaces. The cylinder bore should be inspected for rust and scoring before receiving cleaning or replacing and the cylinder must be examined for damage and wear while requiring cleaning or replacement. Reinstallation starts with the opposite sequence of dismantling while adding lithium soap base glycol grease to arrow-marked rubber components.
