  • Q: How to service and repair the ABS Control Module for Antilock Brakes on 2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: The procedure to repair Antilock Brakes requires the removal of both the tool box followed by the removal of the luggage compartment trim box cover. The ABS actuator brake lines require Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to disconnect six brake lines. The first step for removing the ABS actuator consists of disconnecting two harness clamps and two actuator connectors followed by removing two bolts, a nut, the ABS actuator assembly and finally two nuts alongside the ABS actuator from the actuator bracket while concluding with the removal of two holders and three cushions from the ABS actuator system. Installation commences by attaching the 2 holders and 3 cushions to the ABS actuator before installing the ABS actuator to the actuator bracket with 2 nuts reaching the specified torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). Afterward, install the ABS actuator assembly at 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) using 2 bolts and a nut. Reinstall the 2 harness clamps by attaching them to the 2 actuator connectors. The procedure of connecting brake lines to the ABS actuator requires Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 and necessitates using a torque wrench with a 30 cm (11.81 inch) fulcrum length to apply 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) and 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) torque according to tool specifications.
