2001 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: You must start power steering pump service and repair operations by removing the No. 1 engine under cover through 7 bolt removal and then performing the same process on the No. 2 engine under cover by removing 6 bolts. The air cleaner assembly with air cleaner hose can be removed by disconnecting the MAF meter connector and hose along with the clamp and removing three bolts. You should start by turning the drive belt tensioner clockwise to relieve the belt tension before removing it. The first step includes vacating two vacuum hoses through clip removal followed by dissecting the suction hose with a clip. The pressure feed tube requires disconnecting through a bolt release and 2 gaskets followed by removing 3 assembly bolts from the PS vane pump. Start the PS vane pump installation process by placing the 3 bolts and tightening them to 17 Nm (175 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.). Connect the pressure feed tube with a new gasket between the union bolt sides on both ends before torquing to 56 Nm (575 kgf-cm, 42 ft. lbs.) while ensuring the stopper properly contacts the PS vane pump body. Use the supply clip to connect the suction hose and add the vacuum hose clips afterward before installation. You must install the drive belt after you loosen tension and rotate the drive belt tensioner in a counterclockwise direction. Replace the air cleaner assembly by installing the air cleaner hose together with three bolts before attaching the clamp and reattaching the MAF meter connector. The last procedure includes installing the six bolts on the No. 2 engine under cover before adding all remaining bolts to the No. 1 engine under cover while performing power steering system bleeding.
