2000 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Service and repair of the power steering pump begins with uninstalling seven bolts on the No. 1 engine under cover then continuing with six bolts from the No. 2 engine under cover. To remove the air cleaner assembly along with the air cleaner hose start by disconnecting the MAF meter connector and the hose and clamp before taking off 3 bolts. The drive belt tensioner requires a counter-clockwise rotation for loosening the belt tension followed by drive belt removal. The procedure starts with releasing two vacuum hoses after unfastening two clips while disconnecting the return hose with one clip removed. Lift away the pressure feed tube through disconnection of its union bolt and 2 gaskets followed by PS vane pump assembly removal by extracting the 3 bolts. To install the PS vane pump assembly use three bolts which should be tightened to 17 Nm (175 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.). Installation of the pressure feed tube requires positioning a union bolt between new gaskets on both sides while making sure the stopper serves the PS vane pump body prior to torquing the bolt to 56 Nm (575 kgf-cm, 42 ft. lbs.). After attaching the return hose to its clip the system requires attachment of two vacuum hoses followed by clip installation. You should replace the belt drive after adjusting its tension. After installing the air cleaner assembly with the air cleaner hose and three bolts the user should add the clamp before reattaching the MAF meter connector. Finish the work by replacing the No. 2 engine under cover using 6 bolts followed by the No. 1 engine under cover secured with 7 bolts then performing regular power steering system bleeding.
