Toyota Land Cruiser Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to remove and replace the power steering pump on Toyota Land Cruiser?
    A:
The power steering pump removal and replacement process starts by disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable but requires at least 90 seconds of wait time to disable the SRS system; specific systems need system initialization after reconnection. The front wheel RH along with the front fender apron seal front RH must be separated from the V-bank cover sub-assembly followed by removing the air cleaner hose assembly and the air cleaner assembly. Start by draining power steering fluid and then remove the fan and generator V belt before detaching the suction hose from the vane pump by sliding its clip free from its mount. The power steering oil pressure sensor connector needs to be removed through wire harness clamp removal and connector detachment. This is followed by disconnecting the pressure feed tube with its bolt and gasket removal. To finish the uninstallation you must remove the vane pump assembly through separating its two securing bolts.
  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on Toyota Land Cruiser?
    A:
Service or repair work on the power steering pump begins by removing the No. 1 engine under cover after unbolt the 7 screws then proceed to remove the No. 2 engine under cover after unbolting its 6 screws. You can remove the air cleaner assembly with attached hose through disconnecting the MAF meter connector combined with the hose and clamp before removing three assembly bolts. You should loosen the Drive Belt tension by rotating the drive belt tensioner in the counterclockwise direction and afterwards remove the drive belt. First remove the clips from the two vacuum hoses before taking off the suction hose with its clip. Disconnection of the pressure feed tube requires users to remove its union bolt and 2 gaskets while removing the 3 bolts to extract the PS vane pump assembly. After securing the PS vane pump assembly start by installing the three bolts with a torque setting of 17 Nm (175 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.). Once you have installed the union bolt between the pressure feed tube and PS vane pump body it is necessary to put new gaskets on both sides while making sure the stopper remains in contact with the pump body before applying torque to 56 Nm (575 kgf-cm, 42 ft. lbs.). Secure the suction hose first before buttoning up the vacuum hose clips and its respective lines. Begin installation of the drive belt after loosely adjusting tension and place the air cleaner assembly with its hose and 3 bolts before clamping down the system and reattaching the MAF meter connection. After reattaching the No. 2 engine under cover with 6 bolts you must reinstall the No. 1 engine under cover with the bolts before performing power steering system bleeding.
