2001 Toyota Echo Air Bag Control Module Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Air Bag Control Module for a 4-Door Vehicle on 2001 Toyota Echo?
A: The service procedure for Air Bag Control Module replacement of a 4-door vehicle starts with taking off the front and rear door scuff plates and moving to remove the center pillar lower garnish before finishing with the retractor component of each front seat outer belt. Before removal of the side Air Bag sensor assembly the technician disconnects the connector but keeps the assembly installed before unscrewing three bolts. Installation begins by tightening three bolts to 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) to secure the new side Air Bag sensor assembly and should be followed by connecting the sensor assembly connector after the installation process. Check that the sensor assembly has no broken or dented areas while also verifying that SRS wires do not obstruct any other system components. A test of sensor assembly looseness should be conducted following installation by shaking the assembly. Complete the installation by placing in order the retractor part of the front seat outer belt followed by the central pillar lower garnish and the front as well as rear door scuff plates. Any sensor that needs Air Bag deployment as a result of collision must receive new SRS components and require replacement instead of restoration.
