2000 Toyota Tundra Wheel Bearing Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the wheel bearing on 2000 Toyota Tundra?
A: The first step of wheel bearing service and repair requires removing all components. You should remove the grease cap by placing the axle hub in a soft jaw vise and using a screwdriver on 2WD models. The procedure for 4WD demands the inward oil seal to be removed through the similar process. Special Service Tools 09710-30021 (09710-03051) and 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04020, 09954-04010, 09955-04031, 09957-04010, 09958-04011) will be required for this step. The axle hub must first have its dust cover directed toward the hub side as the four bolts securing it are removed. Separate the dust cover and bearing spacer from the ABS speed sensor rotor (w/ABS) or spacer (w/o ABS). Maintain the serrations of the speed sensor rotor without scratching them. After removing the outside oil seal with a screwdriver you can extract the bearing from the steering knuckle through snap ring pliers and Special Service Tool: 09950-60020 (09951-00810), 09950-70010 (09951-07150) operated with a press. Install a new bearing through the combination of Special Service Tool: 09527-17011, 09950-60020 (09951-00910) and a press before inserting a new snap ring using snap ring pliers. Wear Special Service Tool: 09223-15030, 09527-17011 in conjunction with a plastic hammer to put in a new oil seal (outside) while coating its lip with MP grease. The dust cover must be secured onto the steering knuckle through 4 bolts which need to be torqued to 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.). Next, use Special Service Tool: 09649-17010 and a press to install the axle hub. Use the ABS speed sensor rotor (or spacer when ABS is absent) without scratching the serration and then apply bearing spacers by using Special Service Tool: 09950-60010 (09951-00650), 09950-70010 (09951-07150) and a press. When finishing 2WD installation install the grease cap then 4WD needs a new oil seal (inside) which should be installed using Special Service Tool: 09527-17011 and a plastic hammer so that you lightly strike the tool around its circumference and coat the oil seal lip with MP grease.
