2000 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Brake Pad Set on 2000 Toyota Tundra?
A: You must inspect the pad lining thickness on the front wheel after removing it before replacement. Replace the pads if you find measurements below 1.0 mm (0.039 inch). Begin pad replacement by first removing the clip, two pins along with the anti-rattle spring, then moving on to the 2 pads and 4 anti-squeal shims. The anti-rattle spring and clip can be reused unless they display deformations, cracks, wear or rust or dirt contamination. The disc inspection must precede pad installation where technicians replace anti-squeal shims with new pads. Use a monkey wrench handle, equivalent or tape the handle to push in the pistons after removing a small brake fluid amount from the reservoir while changing pads per wheel one at a time to prevent opposite piston flight-out by loosening the bleeder plug if piston insertion becomes challenging. Before pad placement, you should apply disc brake grease onto the inside edges of both anti-squeal shims while keeping the grease from touching the pad contact surface. In sequence install the anti-rattle spring and the two pins before positioning the clip and finally reattaching the front wheel while tightening it to 113 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.). Complete the procedure by pressing down the brake pedal several times while inspecting that the fluid sits at the highest marking.
