2000 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Shock Absorber on 2000 Toyota Solara?
A: Start the coil spring disassembly process by placing the shock absorber in a vise with two nuts and a bolt at its lower bracket and applying Special Service Tool: 09727-30021 to compress the coil spring. Use this tool cautionously to prevent tool damage. Begin by removing the nut then proceeding to remove the collar, suspension support and coil spring, lower insulator and spring bumper in succession. Apply compression to the shock absorber rod for inspection of any abnormal resistance or unusual noises during operation; replace the shock absorber if replacement is required. To dispose of the shock absorber extend the rod fully then drill a small opening on the cylinder venting the gas with caution against flying debris while recognizing the gas has no color, odor or poisonous properties. The reassembly process starts by putting on the lower insulator followed by installing the spring bumper onto the piston rod. Then use Special Service Tool: 09727-30021 to compress the coil spring before positioning the shock absorber correctly with the lower end fit into the lower insulator gap. After installing the suspension support onto the piston rod you must attach the collar and install a new nut that should be tightened temporarily. Use the suspension support rotator to correctly position it before removing the Special Service Tool: 09727-30021 and double-checking the alignment of the support.
