2000 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the torsion bar spring with the anchor arm on 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Starting the process requires removing both the front wheel and engine under cover before the torsion bar spring with its anchor arm can be taken off. Apply matching marks to the torsion bar spring and anchor arm as well as torque arm before obtaining a dimension "A" measurement between the anchor arm adjusting bolt end and frame. These marks will help during the installation process. Release tension on the anchor bolt arm while checking its measurement value "B" which will be needed later for installation. Start by removing the anchor arm adjusting bolt then successively disassembly includes removing the anchor arm swivel and the anchor arm adjusting seat and finally taking out the torsion bar spring with its anchor arm and anchor arm from the torsion bar spring. Users need to disconnect the torque arm by taking out its two nuts together with bolt and the entire arm assembly. Start with the torque arm installation process by fixing the bolt then adding the torque arm and 2 nuts followed by tightening the fasteners to 225 Nm (2,300 kgf-cm, 166 ft. lbs.). Begin new torsion bar spring installation by applying a light MP grease coating to the spline before adding the new torsion bar spring with anchor arm followed by installation of the anchor arm adjusting seat and then adding the anchor arm swivel and finally bolt down the anchor arm adjusting bolt. During installation ensure that the length of the anchor arm adjusting bolt end stays near dimension "B" measurement taken during removal. Adjust the anchor arm adjusting bolt to reach the range of dimensions "A". Reusing the torsion bar spring requires aligning matchmarks between the torsion bar spring and anchor arm as well as the torsion bar spring and torque arm then tightening the anchor arm bolt to match its original dimension "A". Place the engine under cover and front wheel while torquing the wheel to 131 Nm (1,340 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs.) and check the vehicle height through adjustments made by stabilizing the suspension and turning the anchor arm bolt.
