2000 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the front shock absorber on 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Starting the service of front shock absorber requires you to remove the front wheel before tightening it to 131 Nm (1,340 kgf-cm, 97 ft. lbs.) torque. The first step involves taking off the front fender apron after which workers should handle the shock absorber. Connectors should be disconnected between the shock absorber and lower suspension arm using hand tools for bolt and nut removal while applying torque of 135 Nm (1,400 kgf-cm, 100 ft. lbs.). Using a 68 Nm torque (700 kgf-cm, 50 ft lbs) support the piston rod to uninstall the nut and cushion and retainer and shock absorber from the assembly. An inspection of the shock absorber requires extending and compressing its rod to detect any resistance or untypical sounds; if irregularities appear, swap out the shock absorber with a new unit. Before discarding the shock absorber create a 2mm to 3mm (.079" to .118") diameter hole to let out the gas content while being vigilant about flying particles during drilling since this gas material is non-toxic and odorless and colorless. The installation process follows the opposite sequence compared to shock absorber removal.
