2000 Toyota Echo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2000 Toyota Echo?
A: Service and repair of the Clutch Master Cylinder starts with removing the reservoir filler cap to drain brake fluid using a syringe while paying attention to avoid fluid contact with paint surfaces. The ABS actuator needs to be removed from all vehicles with ABS technology. Use a container to prevent fluid spillage during reservoir hose removal from the master cylinder by sliding the clip toward the reservoir direction. The next step involves disconnecting the clutch line from the master cylinder by using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to capture fluid into a container. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the return spring, clip and clevis pin then take out the master cylinder by removing its two nuts. The inlet union disassembly process starts by using a 3 mm but with hammer to drive out the slotted spring pin followed by extraction of the inlet union along with grommet. You should begin by opening the lock nut to extract the clevis assembly and boot without pushing the push rod while using snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring followed by the push rod along with the washer. The final step requires removing the piston along with its inserted spring. Assembling parts requires lithium soap base glycol grease for coating followed by inserting the piston with spring into the cylinder then installing the push rod and boot with correct installation of washer and snap ring. Install the lock nut and clevis temporarily after which install the inlet union with fresh grommet, drive in the slotted spring pin. First secure the master cylinder to the body with the two nuts tightened to 12 Nm using torque tools which is equal to 120 kgf-cm (9 ft. lbs.) then install the clevis pin followed by the clip and return spring. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to connect the clutch line to the master cylinder with a torque of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Then install the reservoir hose to the inlet union and fasten it with a clip. When applicable replace the ABS actuator before filling the reservoir with brake fluid and performing clutch system bleeding followed by leak inspection and clutch pedal adjustment and reaching maximum fluid mark on the reservoir before installing the filler cap.
