2001 Toyota Echo Clutch Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2001 Toyota Echo?
A: Start servicing or repairing the Clutch Master Cylinder by taking out the filler cap from the reservoir while drawing brake fluid with a syringe then clean painted surfaces from any remaining fluid. The ABS actuator needs to be removed if your vehicle possesses this system. Use a container to catch the master cylinder reservoir fluid while removing its hose connection using the clip movement toward the reservoir direction. The clutch line requires separation from the master cylinder through the application of Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 while containing the fluid in a suitable receptacle. Use needle-nose pliers to remove the return spring and clip while using the pliers to get the clevis pin out. Remove the 2 nuts from the master cylinder to extract it. To disassemble the inlet union requires you to drive out its slotted spring pin with a 3 mm pin punch and hammer then extract the inlet union along with grommet. Apply the lock nut until slack to free the clevis and boot from the system while sliding the push rod with a quick push from snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring and push rod before washing the system. The procedure ends by removing the piston with its accompanying spring. Screw on lithium soap base glycol grease onto the components before placing the piston with spring inside the cylinder barrel followed by installing the push rod and boot assembly which must include positioning of a washer and snap ring. Before installing the next parts attach a lock nut and clevis followed by an inlet union paired with fresh grommet that needs its slotted spring pin driven in. Install the master cylinder using two nuts which should be tightened to 12 Nm torque setting and afterward insert the clevis pin and return spring using pliers. The master cylinder clutch line requires attachment by Special Service Tool number 09023-00100 before torquing to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Next, install the reservoir hose onto the inlet union while using a clip for attachment. Installation of the ABS actuator requires filling the reservoir with brake fluid while bleaching the clutch system and checking for leaks before adjusting the clutch pedal and filling the reservoir to its maximum line followed by installing the filler cap.
