Starting the parking brake assembly repair process requires first removing the rear wheel as well as disconnecting the rear disc brake cylinder mounting. The first step involves extracting the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug from the rear disc but disc and axle hub should be marked prior to releasing the parking brake. Use the shoe adjuster to rotate until the disc experiences free rotation before putting back the shoe adjusting hole plug into the rear disc. Start by using needle-nose pliers to remove the two shoe return tension springs which are located on the upper section of the assembly. Then proceed with the parking brake shoe strut before taking out the tension spring on the lower side of the brake assembly. Start by eliminating the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set followed by removal of the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly which requires pressure to the shoe hold-down spring for extraction of pin and spring along with shoe. Operation of the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly requires sliding the shoe to detach its hold-down spring and pin as well as shoe before disconnecting the parking brake cable from its shoe lever for next the parking brake shoe lever removal. Check the brake disc diameter using a drum gauge until it reaches 173 mm (6.81 inch) and evaluate the shoe lining thickness with a ruler as replacement is needed if it falls below 1.0 mm (0.039 inch). The brake disc requires processing with chalk to check if the shoe lining establishes the correct amount of contact. High-temperature grease must be distributed on the shoe and backing plate contact surfaces before installing the parking brake shoe lever along with the No. 2 parking brake shoe assembly while connecting the parking brake cable and applying grease to necessary surfaces. The installation begins with putting the No. 1 parking brake shoe assembly into position while applying grease on contact surfaces followed by the parking brake shoe adjusting screw installation process during which attention should be given to greasing the adjusting bolt. The side parking brake shoe return tension springs must be installed with needle-nose pliers before placing the parking brake shoe strut with grease applied to its contact area. First verify that the installation of all parts is correct while confirming friction surfaces stay free from oil or grease after which the rear disc should be mounted at a position exhibiting minimum runout and matchmark alignment. Operate the hub nuts while removing the shoe adjusting hole plug until expanding the shoe adjuster locks the disc then setting the smooth rotation at eight return notches to confirm brake drag absence. Complete the process by reinstalling the shoe adjusting hole plug followed by connecting the rear disc brake cylinder mounting then installing the rear wheel with a torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Operate the vehicle at 50 km/h (31 mph) on a dry safe road, while you use a power of 147 Newtons (15 kgf, 33 ft. lbs.) on the parking brake lever for 400 m (0.25 miles), repeat this action two to three times afterward check the parking brake lever travel and perform adjustments as needed.
