The first step to serve and repair a power steering pump includes removing the two bolts from the front fender apron seal RH. Before you detach the hose check that steams of liquid will not drip on the drive belt. First remove the bolt and nut of the clamp plate set from the 5S-FE Engine for the pressure feed tube. Then take out the 2 clamp plates along with 2 holders from the tube before removing the clamp itself. Servicing the 1MZ-FE Engine requires removal of the 2 clamp plate set nuts and bolt then the clamp plates and holders from the tube component. The tube disconnection must be performed using Special Service Tool: 09631-22020 for both engines. The following step requires loosening the two bolts labeled A and B to remove the drive belt. The oil pressure switch requires disconnection from its connector before proceeding to loosen bolt A that remains non-removable while removing the PS vane pump assembly and its connected pressure feed tube. The oil pressure switch should be separated from the union bolt while being careful to avoid dropping it before proceeding to remove the entirety of the union bolt together with the gasket. The technical process calls for torquing the union bolt with a new gasket to allow the tube stopper to touch the front bracket at 52 Nm (525 kgf.cm, 38 ft. lbs.) for both engines. Then install the oil pressure switch on the union bolt with 21 Nm (210 kgf.cm, 15 ft. lbs.). Correctly adjust the drive belt tension while holding the temporary tightness on PS vane pump assembly bolts A and B that hold the pressure feed tube. The tool 09249-63010 from Special Service Tool should be employed to torque bolt A to 29 Nm (293 kgf.cm, 21 ft.lbs.) for the 5S-FE Engine and to apply the same torque for the 1MZ-FE Engine. After cautioning against connector exposure to oil, you should connect this fitting to the oil pressure switch while using a torque of 43 Nm (440 kgf.cm, 32 ft. lbs.) for both the 5S-FE and 1MZ-FE engines. When using Special Service Tool: 09631-22020 to install the pressure feed tube perform 32 Nm (326 kgf.cm, 24 ft. lbs.) torque for 5S-FE Engine and 20 Nm (203 kgf.cm, 15 ft. lbs.) torque for 1MZ-FE Engine while keeping the tool parallel to the torque wrench. To secure the tube clamp for 5S-FE Engine installation you must first install the clamp and then add the 2 clamp plates with 2 holders followed by torquing the clamp plate set bolt and nut at 10 Nm (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft. lbs.). Insufficient torque on the 1MZ-FE Engine requires tightening the bolt first followed by securing the 2 clamp plate set nuts at 7.8 Nm (80 kgf.cm, 69 inch lbs.). The power steering system requires a bleed before the final installation step which includes connecting the return hose and tightening the 2 bolts on both the front fender apron seal RH.

Service and repair of the power steering pump starts with removing the front fender apron seal on the right-hand side through the removal of its 2 bolts. According to the steps unique to 5S-FE and 1MZ-FE engines you must first remove various clamps and holders then use Special Service Tool: 09023-12700 to disconnect the tube. After loosening the 2 bolts marked as A and B on the drive belt you can remove the belt. Then proceed to take out the PS vane pump assembly with pressure feed tube by disconnecting the oil pressure switch connector and loosening bolt A, which remains on the align. Toward the end of pressure feed tube removal disconnect the oil pressure switch from the union bolt while being cautious about dropping it before you take out the union bolt and gasket. Begin installing the pressure feed tube by adding a new gasket then position its stopper against the front bracket before torquing the union bolt to 52 Nm (525 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.). Affix the oil pressure switch into the union bolt section while tightening it to 21 Nm (210 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.). First install the PS vane pump assembly along with the pressure feed tube and tighten the 2 bolts A and B in a temporary manner. Then install the drive belt after adjusting its tension. Torque bolt A to 29 Nm (293 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.) while using Special Service Tool: 09249-63010. Disconnect the clamp with engine wire when working on the 1MZ-FE engine. Apply 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.) torque along with a connector connection to the oil pressure switch after ensuring the connector remains free from oil contamination. The pressure feed tube requires installation with Special Service Tool: 09023-12700 while torquing it to 23 Nm (235 kgf-cm, 17 ft. lbs.) and maintaining tool parallelness to the torque wrench. The tube clamp must be attached first on the 5S-FE engine followed by installing 2 clamp plates and 2 holders before tightening the clamp plate set bolt and nut to 10 Nm (100 kgf-cm, 7 ft. lbs.). Precise installation of the 1MZ-FE engine includes the placement of 2 clamp plates with 2 holders while tightening the bolt followed by torquing 2 clamp plate set nuts to 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 inch lbs.). The power steering system bleed process needs completion and the right-hand front fender apron seal needs 2 bolts tightening together with the return hose connection.

Detach the rear housing by removing 4 bolts and 2 O-rings, then take out the wave washer, side plate, gasket, cam ring, 10 vane plates, and vane pump rotor, being careful not to drop the plate while removing the snap ring from the vane pump shaft.

Disconnect the connector from the oil pressure switch, loosen bolt A with Special Service Tool: 09249-63010 and a deep socket (14 mm), then remove bolt B and the vane pump assembly.

Use Special Service Tool: 09249-63010 to torque bolt A to 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) with a torque wrench that has a fulcrum length of 300 mm (11.81 inch).

Torque to 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.).

Install the 2 holders and 2 clamp plates to the pressure feed tube with a bolt, then secure the 2 clamp plates with 2 nuts torqued to 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 inch lbs.).

Take off the front and rear brackets by removing 3 bolts and 2 nuts.

Measure the oil clearance between the vane pump shaft and bushing with a micrometer and caliper gauge, ensuring it is within the standard clearance of 0.03 - 0.05 mm (0.0012 - 0.0020 inch) and not exceeding the maximum clearance of 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch).

Remove the oil pressure switch from the union bolt, followed by the union bolt, gasket, and pressure feed tube.

Attach the pressure feed tube and a new gasket to the PS vane pump assembly with the union bolt, ensuring the stopper touches the front bracket, and torque to 52 Nm (530 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.).

Begin by disconnecting the return hose by removing the clip and taking care not to spill fluid on the drive belt.

Take off the oil pressure switch from the union bolt, being careful not to drop the switch, and if damaged, replace it. Then remove the union bolt and gasket.

Use Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09960-01000) to stop the pulley from rotating, then take off the front and rear brackets by removing 3 bolts and 2 nuts.

Install the pressure feed tube with a new gasket, ensuring the stopper of the tube touches the front bracket, and torque the union bolt to 52 Nm (525 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.).
