Water Pump

The installation starts with placing a new gasket followed by fastening the water pump with 17 bolts while tightening Bolt A to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf) and Bolt B to 23 Nm (235 kgf-cm, 17 ft-lbf). You must install the vane pump assembly after which you can put on the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly. After installing the cooler compressor assembly move to the installation of the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly. The procedure for water inlet installation begins with placing a new O-ring on the water outlet pipe before adding a new gasket to the water pump. Soapy water should be applied to the O-ring before tightening the water inlet with five bolts at 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf). Join both radiator hoses along with the five water by-pass tubes. Installation of the generator must be followed by the air cleaner then the fan assembly. Finish the procedure by attaching the cable to the negative terminal using 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf) torque before installing the V-bank cover.

The first step to remove the water pump begins with disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable. Begin by firstly taking out the fan then move to remove the V-bank cover followed by the air cleaner assembly. Then, remove the generator assembly. Begin at the water inlet removal by unplugging the 2 radiator hoses together with the 5 water by-pass hoses. Then unscrew the 5 bolts holding the water inlet before taking off the O-ring from the water outlet pipe and the gasket from the water pump. Start by removing the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly then split the cooler compressor assembly after that remove the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly. The removal sequence continues with vane pump assembly decomposition followed by the extraction of the water pump assembly through bolt removal of its 17 nuts before both parts are fully detached.

Connect the 5 water by-pass hoses, 2 radiator hoses, and 2 oil cooler hoses.

Drain the engine coolant, then remove the V-bank cover.

Uniformly tighten the bolts to a torque of 21 Nm (215 kgf-cm, 16 ft-lbf) and the stud bolts and nut to 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf).

Install the V-bank cover with the 2 nuts, torquing to specified values, and reinstall the engine under cover sub-assy No.1 with the 4 bolts, torquing to specified values.

Install the vane pump assembly, V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly, cooler compressor assembly, No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly, and water inlet.

Remove the water inlet housing with the water inlet.

Take off the 4 fluid coupling nuts to remove the fan with fluid coupling and fan shroud together, followed by the fan pulley.

Install the fan and connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a torque of 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf).

Remove the 5 bolts securing the water inlet, followed by the O-ring from the water outlet pipe and the gasket from the water pump.

Install the fan shroud, connect the radiator hose inlet and outlet, and install the air cleaner assembly with element and No. 2 air cleaner hose.

Reinstall the fan shroud, connect the radiator hose inlet and outlet, add engine coolant, check for coolant leaks, and reinstall the V-bank cover and No. 1 engine under cover.

Drain the engine coolant.

Take out the 3 bolts to remove the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Install the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly for Pre Runner and 4WD Type using 4 bolts, torqued to 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft-lbf).

Drain the engine coolant.

Remove the V-bank cover and disconnect the radiator hose inlet and outlet.

Torque bolt B to 9 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.).

Add engine coolant, check for any leaks, and finally reinstall the engine under cover sub-assembly No.1, securing it with the 4 bolts and torquing to 30 Nm.

Install the air cleaner assembly with element and the No. 2 air cleaner hose.
