The first step to remove an Engine Control Module (ECM) for the 2AZ-FE engine requires users to disconnect the negative battery cable. Begin by removing the No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly and proceed with the air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose. The third step involves removing the air cleaner case. Disconnect the ECM by releasing the wire harness clamp then push in the locks that secure the two connectors to raise both levers for unassembling the connectors. As a safety measure keep all connectors free of dust, moisture and other external pollutants when disconnecting them. To detach the ECM completely removes three bolts which secure it along with the four screws accompanying two ECM brackets.

Separate the wire harness clamp and disconnect the 2 ECM connectors by pushing the locks on the 2 levers, raising the levers, and disconnecting the connectors.

Connect the 2 ECM connectors, ensuring that no dirt, water, or foreign matter is trapped between the connectors and other parts, and confirm that the 2 levers are securely locked.
