Camshaft

Set the No. 1 cylinder to TDC/compression, then remove the No. 1 chain tensioner assembly.

Remove the chain tensioner slipper by taking out the bolt.

Align the camshaft timing gear and camshaft with the straight pin and key groove misaligned, then turn the camshaft timing gear while gently pushing it against the camshaft until the pin fits into the groove, ensuring not to turn it to the retard angle side. Check for no clearance between the gear and camshaft, then tighten the flange bolt to a torque of 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft-lbf). Verify that the camshaft timing gear can move to the retard angle side and is locked in the most retarded position.

Uniformly loosen and remove the 20 bearing cap bolts in the specified sequence, pry between the cylinder head and camshaft housing with a screwdriver, taking care not to damage the contact surfaces.

Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt and rotate the crankshaft.

Allow the plunger to extend slightly, rotate the stopper plate counterclockwise to release the lock, push the plunger into the tensioner, move the stopper plate clockwise to set the lock, and insert a pin into the stopper plate hole before removing the 2 bolts, chain tensioner, and gasket.

Confirm the marks on the camshaft bearing caps, install the 11 bolts with a torque of 16 Nm (163 kgf-cm, 12 ft-lbf), and ensure smooth rotation of the camshaft.
