Toyota Tundra Oil Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Replace the Oil Filter on Toyota Tundra?
A: You must start the 1GR-FE oil filter replacement by removing the No. 1 engine under cover. Use a disposal container underneath the drain plug while removing both the oil filler cap and drain plug to empty engine oil. Screw down the drain plug after applying a new gasket and tightening it to 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf). You should start by removing the oil filter sub-assembly through drain pipe cap removal followed by the use of Special Service Tool: 09228-07501 which enables you to detach the oil filter while placing a disposal container beneath the drain hose. Install a new oil filter by first applying clean engine oil to its gasket then slowly screw it onto the installation surface until the gasket touches the seat. You can apply Special Service Tool: 09228-07501 to tighten the oil filter and use space-permitting torque wrenches set to 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf) or hand-tighten it with a common wrench for 3/4 turns when space is restricted. For new oil filling choose SAE 5W-30 or SAE 10W-30 along with the oil filler cap reinstallation. Verify the engine operation while inspecting the serviced region for any leaking oil. The technician should check the engine oil level with the dipstick after the motor has reached an 80 degrees Celsius (176 degrees Fahrenheit) temperature. Necessary oil additions should bring the level to the maximum point. The procedure ends with reinstallation of the No. 1 engine under cover.
