As it is with the kidney in the human body, the Oil Filter removes impurities that would exert abrasive feel on the engine bearings and control oil pressure. As a result, the efficiency of the Oil Filter decreases over time by its clogging, mainly because of the need for its replacement along with the oil. Typical Oil Filters, including full-flow and bypass filters, are employed in today's engines in order to provide the correct oil circulation and increase its duration. Gratefully, Oil Filters have various improvements regarding new technologies based on the pressure relief valves, as well as, replaceable cartridges.

Toyota Tundra Oil Filter Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Replace the Oil Filter on Toyota Tundra?
    A:
The first step to change the oil filter on 1GR-FE involves removing the undercover at engine position No. 1. Start draining the engine oil by taking off the oil filler cap followed by the oil drain plug while directing the oil to go into a proper disposal container. Install a new gasket on the drain plug followed by the plug itself while applying torque to 40 Nm (408 kgf-cm, 30 ft-lbf). Use Special Service Tool: 09228-07501 along with the drainage container set under the drain hose when removing the oil filter sub-assembly by first unfastening the drum pipe cap. First clean the surface where the new oil filter will mount then apply neat engine oil to the gasket of the new filter before installing it with hand torque until the gasket meets the seat. It is possible to tighten the oil filter either using torque wrench with 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf) when space permits or applying common wrench for a 3/4 turns manually if the space is limited. The addition of new oil should be through the oil filler cap using SAE 5W-30 or SAE 10W-30 when SAE 5W-30 is not available before reinstalling the oil filler cap. Begin the vehicle engine and verify if any oil leaks are present in the serviced region. Use the dipstick to inspect the engine oil level after the engine reaches 80 degrees Celsius (176 degrees Fahrenheit) and fill it up to the maximum mark if required. Complete the procedure by installing the top engine cover at position No. 1.
