- Q: How to remove the water pump on Toyota Matrix?A:Start the removal of the 2AZ-FE engine water pump by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery terminal. Start by covering both engine under surfaces at left and right positions before draining the engine cooling fluid. The technician should split apart the radiator reserve tank assembly before removing the V-ribbed belt. The procedure starts with taking out the generator assembly and the right-side engine mounting insulator sub-assembly. Special Service Tool 09960-10010 09962-01000 should be employed to remove the four bolts securing the water pump pulley. The procedure for water pump assembly removal begins with cutting off the clamp of the Crankshaft Position Sensor from the water pump followed by disconnecting the sensor wire from its clamp bracket. Unfasten the 4 bolts before taking off the 2 nuts and the clamp bracket. A screwdriver with taped tip should be used to carefully separate the water pump from the cylinder block by inserting it between their surfaces.

The next component to install is the water pump together with the clamp bracket through attachment of 4 bolts and 2 nuts which require torquing to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf). The wire harness of the Crankshaft Position Sensor should be fastened through the back of the timing chain cover rib to the wire harness clamp bracket before installing the bracket. The water pump pulley requires installing with 4 bolts through the use of Special Service Tools: 09960-10010 09962-01000 09963-00700 and should be torqued to 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft-lbf). Before adding the V-ribbed belt, install the generator assembly along with the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH. The radiator reserve tank assembly gets installed before proceeding to connect the cable to the negative battery terminal for adding engine coolant while searching for any coolant leaks. Install both engine under covers (RH and LH) as the final step of the procedure.
