The Toyota Land Cruiser Ignition Coil is an important component that is tasked with performing an important duty in igniting the vehicle. By step up transformation of the low voltage from the battery into high voltage power the ignition coil creates the spark required to burn the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder. This occurs through two coils of insulated copper wire the primary and secondary turning around a core of iron in a housing. The primary circuit connects to the battery as well as the triggering device while the secondary circuit develops the high voltage for igniting. Mentioned types of the ignition coils include distributor ignition coils and coil-on-plug ignition coils which have been installed in different models of the Land Cruiser and they have different operating principles and advantages. Maintenance and inspection of the ignition coil are vital because defects in the structure can contribute to different problems for the car - unstable engine operation, poor performance, and a deterioration of fuel efficiency.

Toyota Land Cruiser Ignition Coil Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to install the ignition coil and spark plugs on Toyota Land Cruiser?
    A:
The 3UR-FE engine control requires the installation of eight Spark Plugs with 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf) torque before fitting eight ignition coils by securing them with eight bolts to 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf). Install the 8 ignition coils by using 8 bolts which should have a torque setting of 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf) and then connect the 8 ignition coil connectors. Start with the automatic transmission and cylinder head cover by-pass pipe assembly before tightening three bolts to 18 Nm (184 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf). Finally connect it between the cylinder head cover and timing chain cover through two bolts while applying 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf) torque. Air cleaner assembly installation must be followed by air cleaner hose assembly and V-bank cover sub-assembly and finally the No. 2 engine under cover.
  • Q: How to service the ignition coil on Toyota Land Cruiser?
    A:
Service of the ignition coil starts by taking out both the V-bank cover and the intake air connector. The engine wire needs disconnecting from the LH cylinder head cover through the removal of two wire clamps together with the engine wire. To initiate work on the ignition coil (with igniter) you need to break its connector loose. The ignition coils with igniter can be freed from the Spark Plugs by unscrewing the bolt then extracting the combination of ignition coil and igniter. To replace the ignition coils (with igniter) staff must remove eight total units while applying torque at 7.5 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf). The installation procedure must be done in the opposite sequence of disassembly.
