Installation of the back door lock assembly requires 3 (13 Nm) bolts to install the non-Power Back Door and 4 (13 Nm) bolts to install Power Back Door. Assemble the required parts, install the trim panels, install the trim panel assist strap, and install the covers, and install the back window upper panel trim assembly.

How to service and repair the Trunk Lid Latch on Toyota Highlander?

In order to service the trunk/liftgate lock, it is best to begin with the wiper and washer systems. Take out the back window trim, left back door trim (where it exists) and back door lock cover. Next, remove the back door trim panel, rear wiper parts and lastly, rear wiper motor and back window lock assembly.
